“The United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared 2 April as World Autism Awareness Day (A/RES/62/139)  to highlight the need to help improve the quality of life of those with autism so they can lead full and meaningful lives as an integral part of society.’ Globally, the day was celebrated under the theme; Transforming the narrative: contributions at home, at work, in the arts and in policy making.

To mark the celebrations in Uganda, Tujifunze Africa Foundation, joined partners under the Autism Society Uganda and the Special Children’s Trust for the Autism Walk to raise awareness about autism and break stigma directed towards parents and children with autism.  The walk saw Civil Society organizations, private sector, teachers, doctors, parents, children participate and harness their power to contribute to inclusive environments for children with Autism.

Tujifunze Africa Foundation, leveraged this platform to raise awareness about disability rights especially the right to education  for children with autism. The organization called for capacity building for teachers and parents on early detection and assessment of disability in children, provision of assistive technology for children with autism, training of teachers on inclusive pedagogy , raise awareness on disability inclusion, implement and fund inclusive education policies and programs.

As an organization, Tujifunze Africa Foundation is committed to promoting and protecting the right to access quality inclusive education for all children with disabilities through advocacy, action and collaboration and Leave No One Behind.
