How Tujifunze Africa Foundation’s Sponsorship Program is Transforming Lives in Namasagali
In 2025, five vulnerable girls in Namasagali faced an uncertain future. Coming from families struggling with poverty, these bright young students were at high risk of dropping out of school—their potential cut short by circumstances beyond their control. Today, thanks to Tujifunze Africa Foundation’s sponsorship program and a collaborative community effort, all five girls remain in school, advancing from Primary 5 and 6 to Primary 6 and 7 in 2026.
This is more than a story about educational support. It’s a testament to what happens when schools, parents, and organizations work together to protect every child’s right to learn.

Understanding Vulnerability: Why These Girls Needed Support
The girls selected for this program weren’t chosen randomly. Through careful collaboration with Namasagali Church of Uganda Primary School, we identified students facing multiple barriers to education:
Economic hardship: Families unable to afford school fees, uniforms, books, and other essential materials
High dropout risk: Girls showing signs of potential withdrawal from school due to financial constraints
Academic potential: Students with the ability and desire to learn, hindered only by lack of resources
Family circumstances: Home environments where poverty threatened to derail educational aspirations
By targeting the most vulnerable, our sponsorship program ensures that those who need help the most receive the support necessary to stay in school and thrive.
The Power of School Partnership
Namasagali Church of Uganda Primary School has been an essential partner in this initiative. School administrators and teachers didn’t just help us identify students in need—they became active participants in these girls’ success stories.
The school’s involvement included:
Identifying at-risk students through close monitoring of attendance, academic performance, and family circumstances
Providing ongoing academic support and mentorship to sponsored students
Maintaining communication with Tujifunze Africa Foundation about each student’s progress and needs
Creating a supportive environment where sponsored students feel valued and encouraged

Engaging Parents: A Critical Component of Success
We believe that sustainable educational support requires active parental involvement. From the outset, we worked closely with the parents and guardians of our sponsored girls, recognizing them as essential partners in their daughters’ education.
Our approach to parental engagement included:
Direct communication with families to understand their challenges and establish trust
Collaborative goal-setting to ensure parents understand the program’s objectives and their role in supporting their daughters
Regular updates on academic progress and program support
Empowerment through partnership — helping parents see themselves as advocates for their children’s education
By engaging parents as partners rather than passive recipients, we’ve created a support system that extends from the classroom into the home, reinforcing the value of education at every level.
A Commitment to Inclusion and Completion
The success of our Namasagali sponsorship program reflects Tujifunze Africa Foundation’s broader mission: supporting girls and children with disabilities in Kamuli district to access education, stay in school, and complete their studies.
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, regardless of their economic background or physical abilities. Our sponsorship program removes the financial barriers that too often force bright, capable students out of the classroom.
As these five girls continue their educational journey—two now in Primary 7, three in Primary 6—they carry with them not just books and uniforms, but hope, dignity, and the knowledge that their community believes in their potential.
Looking Forward: Building on Success
The 100% retention rate from 2025 to 2026 demonstrates what’s possible when we invest in vulnerable children with intentionality and partnership. But our work is far from finished.
As we continue to support these five girls through their primary education and beyond, we remain committed to:
Expanding our reach to support more vulnerable students in Kamuli district
Strengthening partnerships with schools, parents, and community members
Ensuring completion by providing sustained support through primary and into secondary education
Creating pathways to success for girls and children with disabilities who might otherwise be left behind
Five girls staying in school may seem like a small number. But to those five girls, to their families, and to their community, it represents everything. It represents hope realized, potential unlocked, and futures transformed.
